Wow! The Wall is Gone!

Go take a look! The vision for the park created by the Landing Studio with your help is finally beginning to happen. The park looks twice as big, the threatening hiding places are gone! The view along the river is back! It will be safer! You can begin to actually see how the connection between the Fenway and the River might happen, historic connections restored. These are all good things that we have the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to thank. The leadership of Brian Arrigo and Jason Santos at the DCR have brought this project to fruition. It was a difficult and long process to get all of the permits, specifications for the removal, and qualified contractors lined up for this work, and we have these dedicated DCR folks to thank.

The wall removal was funded by a matching grant between DCR and Charlesgate Alliance with additional funding from the Emerald Necklace Conservancy. This could not have happened without the many dedicated, generous and patient individual donors to the Charlesgate Alliance.

We are also happy to report that many of the beautiful granite stones that made up the fascia of the wall will be saved at a DCR yard and be used in some form in some elements in the final design of the park. This was a very important goal of this removal but a question unanswerable until we saw in what condition the stones came off. They came off cleaner than expected and will be repurposed.

Step into the park and enjoy the “long view.”
